Reflections on Volunteering
Helping out at St. Vincent de Paulinterview with Chris Gilbert by Lisa SattellShir Hadash member Chris Gilbert likes coming to the St. Vincent De Paul meal site, seeing all the different kinds of people, saying hi and trying to make people's day brighter with a smile and a friendly greeting. She started volunteering there ten years ago and brought her kids when they were younger. Her advice: "Don't be shy, come down. There are lots of people to talk to. Everyone here is very friendly and willing to help you." Chris likes the feeling of helping people. "It's easy to do, and it doesn't take a lot of time. It's a good group of volunteers and there are plenty of ways to help out, whether you're serving beverages, stacking chairs or helping with clean-up. People are really nice here." |
A Cathedral Center Shelter experienceThis is from a letter sent to members of Congregation Shir Hadash from Rea Katz. Learn more on our Cathedral Center page or email rkatz@thi-milwaukee.orgDear CSHadashniks,
Yesterday, Jim Hagen and I, along with 4 other members of Tikkun Ha Ir volunteered at Cathedral Center Shelter for women and families. What a great experience! I would recommend it to you. |
