REPAIRING OUR COMMUNITIES THROUGH STUDY AND ACTION

What is Tikkun Ha-Ir?

Tikkun Ha-Ir of Milwaukee provides volunteer, social action, and study opportunities for all Jews regardless of affiliation. Activities integrate the study of Jewish texts with social action projects to improve the civic life of Milwaukee and its people.

Its five sponsoring organizations include four synagogues of different denominations as well as the non-denominational Hillel Foundation. Membership in a sponsoring organization is not required to participate in or take a leadership role in Tikkun Ha-Ir activities. Activities are free and open to the public.

Anshe Sfard Kehillat Torah (ASKT) is a modern-orthodox shul located in the northern Milwaukee suburb of Glendale, Wisconsin. We are a Zionist shul, incorporating tefillot for Medinat Israel (the prayers for the IDF and the State of Israel) into our davening. We also participate in community Yom Yerushalayim and Yom Ha'atzmaaut celebrations. Our community is located within an Eruv. It is a vibrant community, where we celebrate together, mourn together, help each other, as well as growing spiritually together. Our spiritual leader, Rabbi Nachman Levine, and Rebbetzin Leah Levine, are the backbone of our community.

Mission Statement

Tikkun Ha-Ir's mission is to encourage the Jewish community to build a more just Milwaukee through study, action and civic engagement.

About the Board

THI's Board of Directors is composed of delegates from its sponsoring organizations and members at large. If you are interested in joining the Board or sitting on a planning committee, contact Gigi Pomerantz.

A Brief History

Tikkun Ha-Ir of Milwaukee was created in 2000. Our first event was a Shabbat dinner and speaker jointly sponsored by Lake Park Synagogue (Orthodox) and Congregation Emanu-El B'ne Jeshurun (Reform) who were then neighbors on the East Side.

Now Tikkun Ha-Ir provides an active Jewish presence in the concerns of the city and its people. Its membership is as eclectic as the Jewish population of Milwaukee.
